The Brain Muscle…

A person for years confined in a wheelchair, a cure now available freed from restriction will not be able to run a marathon without some long term conditioning of lower body muscle. Another muscle that require conditioning, the brain. After spending a year or more watching cartoons with the children, hours in front of a television as a ball moves  across a field, the wasting of brain muscle as in a wheelchair bond person begin to take its toll. This month the Supreme Court will be issuing judicial decisions, if the brain is not in top condition it will not be able to follow or understand the consequences, though some may think it can. Many of the studies required in High School have always been a wonder. Algebra and geometry just to name two, have always been talked about as subjects that will never be used in real adult life, wrong. The study of some subjects may never be used in a direct familial atmosphere but in a more important analytical understanding of others, without those skills lifelong human education would never have advanced beyond the caves of dunce…

Chauvinism…

A hooked cross is a symbol sacred in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Odinism, appearing on artifacts from pre-Christian cultures, has been displayed somewhere in the world for more than five-thousand years, however, only in Germany today is it against the law to display it. So it is possible for a seemingly innocent symbol to be captured, corrupted, its meaning changed say into Mendel’s Law, which is then used to justify the treatment of humans. Any picture or thing turned into a symbol can in degrees over time become a symbol of evil and more. Taken to the extreme a glass of milk found at the scene of a thousand wretched murders will soon symbolize the act, may spark a movement to outlaw its picture anywhere and everywhere. A symbol once turned there is a rush to ban it when the aim should be to return it to its true intention, but admittedly would take too long after the damage has been forged in the mind, which is where we find ourselves today…

My Man…

Congratulations to the ‘work horse’ at NBC News, Lester Holt on becoming the anchor of their Nightly News program. I can’t help to wonder if he was a female, dyed blond hair, greasy lips and rosy cheeks would be on order. Further, as a person of color do not forget the straight haired wig…

Young Good Looking Youth…

Like a lot of young people who came of age in the Viet Nam era I was a draft dodger. The issue was clear cut to me and others, there was a people that wanted self-determination much like the issues confronting colonial America. To make a long story short I was arrested sent to the Federal House of Detention for three days to await an appearance before a judge. While waiting a friendship developed with an old timer about to spend his next twenty years in confinement, who told me what to expect of a young good looking youth in an institution. Three days passed… before a judge I was given a choice, trial (with a possible five year imprisonment) or two years in the Army. Terrified of losing my virginity to a Bubba, the Army sounded best. A wise decision too, the skill to type kept me out of the factory, into a clean office environment and by extension the art of blogging…

Life…

All life has value, is precious, some more so then others. Days are spent lying, stealing, perhaps even killing, will be resting in their beds at home tonight. Some have spent their lives, helping, healing, feeding, will be reclining in graves next week…

Tabloid?

The word ‘tabloid’ in newspaper parlance denotes the size of the paper which has become code for sensational crime stories, however, it’s possible for a full size newspaper to be referred to as  ‘tabloid’ because of the type of stores it seem to specialize in. In my old school way of thinking every word that comes out a journalist mouth is gospel, infallible truth, without any shades of gray. Shout wolf once or twice, you are never allowed into the theatre of trust again. Appear on television in a mask, hiding your true identity, the appearance becomes a lie. Whatever is reported cannot be trusted it is a lie in sight of the viewer. Since when is the messenger’s message not believed because of appearance? It’s when the news reader appear with kinky hair, without make-up. On the other hand, if the story is gossipy, contain allegations of a sexual nature, involving celebrity’s then report on and on and on…

Just One More Shot…

The aim upon arriving in Hollywood is to become known. If one can afford it, hire a press agent who will do their best to place a name and image as often as possible in the media. Then comes the tipping point when the image becomes old and tired referred to as ‘image fatigue’. We are almost at that point with the current crop of Presidential candidates, and if ‘image fatigue’ sets in it will be the fault of the cable news networks. Just yesterday, a candidate said ‘boo’ which prompted sixteen images with another eight during the panel discussion, so many confabulation could not be followed. At some point the campaign manager has got to try hold off the media before the electors become annoyed with the candidate’s image that seems to be everywhere, like an irritating commercial product to be avoided. Absence for too long has its danger too, the public likes to go on to the next big thing, may find the candidate in the arena of ‘who is that’? Or worse, ‘didn’t that used to be’…?
