The Pompous Way

In an interview with The Washington Post this week (02/19/2017), President-elect Donald Trump floated the idea of using military parades to make good on his promise of rebuilding America’s greatness.


“Being a great president has to do with a lot of things, but one of them is being a great cheerleader for the country,” Trump said. “And we’re going to show the people as we build up our military, we’re going to display our military. Source, Shawn Snow, MilitaryTimes…


I must admit that I had not really thought this subject through before hearing by chance that this subject was even being considered. America has never wanted to appear like a tinhorn dictator never missing a chance to put on display military hardware in a parade to the world as if to proclaim, see how powerful, that is until this American President, and his notion of ‘make America great again’, as if the displaying of military tanks, guns, and rockets, can in some small and large way make it appear so. Reminds me of the U.S. old west when a gunslinger would walk around in a newly visited town without a jacket showing off his two six guns strapped to his side, announcing to everyone in view, reckon you all better fear me, I am a gunslinger, a tinhorn gunslinger, and you’d better smile when you say that and see me a coming…
