During the early days of broadcast news, on both radio and television, networks and stations would use the word, ‘bulletin’, meaning a news flash of a beginning urgent news story would soon follow, stay tuned, that was designed to have you shaking in your boots the significance of a national impending emergency to be determined. But a bulletin cannot run all day, so, some wise executive news manager, came up with the large red blinking ‘breaking news’ banner on television, and for those not so urgent news items, ‘this just in’ on radio came into vogue, but even those cannot run all day, so, I, suggest an all-day cure, the ‘developing story’ words and banner that can run until the cows come home and I have recently noticed some have adopted it. Is this a ‘developing story’? maybe…
